Buckle up, because things are getting super intense for The Young and the Restless' Ashland Locke! Portrayer Robert Newman reveals that the good-guy/bad-guy dynamic in Genoa City is "like a fast-moving speed chess game," and one never knows what's really coming down the pipeline.

As the marriage between The Young and the Restless' Ashland Locke and Victoria Newman possibly speeds toward a disastrous end, new cast member Robert Newman, who took over the role of Ashland last month, says it's anyone's guess as to what's really going to pan out on the CBS soap opera.

In an interview in the latest issue of TV Guide, the actor opens up about the current storyline in which Ashland may face the destruction of his marriage after his father-in-law, Victor (Eric Braeden), gives Victoria (Amelia Heinle) evidence that may show Ashland has been faking his life-threatening cancer all along.

Victor is set to present the possibly damning info to his daughter on Monday, March 14, and it sounds like fans should prepare themselves for some pretty interesting material to play out over the course of next week and perhaps beyond..

"I'm not quite sure who the good guys are and who the bad guys are," Newman shares, referencing the battle between Ashland and Victor. "It's like a fast-moving speed chess game that these two are playing, where Ashland is just trying to stay one move ahead."

Whether or not Ashland turns out to be the "bad guy," Newman says he is convinced that his alter ego has very true feelings for Victoria. He says that the love Ashland has for Victor's daughter hasn't been faked in the slightest.

"In my view, Ashland's love for Victoria is real," Newman opines. "He's figuring out how to protect his part of the business, but I personally think he's petrified of losing her."

Fans will have to continue watching The Young and the Restless to find out what's ahead for Victor, Ashland, and Victoria, but you can watch a sneak peek preview of the excitement to come below.
