One Life to Live has decided to release actress Darlene Vogel (Melanie MacIver) from her contract - and Vogel couldn't be happier.
Last week, a spokesperson for the actress confirmed the rumors that the actress had been let go. The actress is expected to make her final on-screen appearance sometime next month.
Vogel joined the cast of One Life to Live in March 2000 and almost immediately was thrust into an unenviable position - coming between the much-loved couple of Bo and Nora. As Bo Buchanan's love interest, Melanie was quickly disliked by man viewers hoping to see Bo and Nora back together.
"I hated my character from the beginning," says Vogel in an interview in the current edition of Soap Opera Digest.
According to a setside source, polls showed that fans were not fond of Bo and Melanie as a couple. It is unclear if the polls were conducted by the network or through random samplings of Internet forums and polls, like those seen on Soap Central.
Vogel has said that she didn't enjoy the soap opera format and claims to be "ecstatic" to be free of her daily OLTL gig. The actress will return to the West Coast upon completion of her OLTL stay.
Vogel will last air on October 19th.
