GH forced to make another emergency recast: this time for Kirsten Storms' Maxie

General Hospital has been forced to make another temporary recast. This time a Days of our Lives alum will step in for Kirsten Storms in the role of Maxie Jones.

Hot on the heels of the news that General Hospital had to make an emergency recast for Emmy-winner Tyler Christopher comes word that the ABC soap has yet another sudden recast on its hands.

ABC has confirmed that Days of our Lives alum Molly Burnett will take over the role of Maxie Jones from Kirsten Storms.

As fans may recall, DAYS' Jen Lilley (Theresa Donovan) temporarily stepped in to play the character from September 2011 to August 2012 while Storms was on medical leave. Lilley is busy over at NBC, so she was not an available alternative this time around.

Daytime Confidential first reported that Burnett was being considered.

There's no word yet on why Storms needed a fill-in this time around or how long she might be away. Burnett, meanwhile, will first air in July.

UPDATE:
In a statement on her Facebook page on May 29, Storms updated concerned fans about the reason for her exit.

"First, thank you for the outpouring of love and support," Storms said in the statement. "Second, yes I am taking a little break from work due to some skin issues I've been having. My doctors say my breakouts are due to stress, but shouldn't take too long to get under control. (I can say that I'm on the better end of it now.) However, it was becoming too difficult for GH to cover up. And we all know in this biz appearance is important. In the meantime I look forward to seeing Molly on screen as I take the next few weeks to heal. Again -- thanks for the love and you will see me again in no time!"
