2021 is turning out to be a big year for new Days of our Lives star Carson Boatman. In addition to joining the NBC soap opera as a SORAS'd Johnny DiMera this summer and marrying his longtime girlfriend, Julana Dizon, just a few days ago, the actor will soon be gracing the big screen in his emotional new film, Runt.
The tense thriller follows a group of neglected and unsupervised high school seniors who are pulled into a downward cycle of violence when the adults in their lives fail them. It stars Disney actor Cameron Boyce -- who tragically passed away in 2019 -- in his final role of Cal, a teenage boy who experiences troubling incidents of bullying that leave him devolving into pain, self-destruction, and abuse.
Boatman plays a bully named Hank in the film, and the DAYS actor explained to Popcorn Talk that bringing the character to life was a big challenge. "I try to be a nice guy in real life, so, it was a little bit different playing the role of Hank -- a pretty mean and vicious human being," he said. "There wasn't a lot to pull from, so, that's where it kind of challenges you as an actor, to just kind of go to a place where you don't normally go and kind of just put yourself there."
Runt -- which also stars Jason Patric, Brianna Hildebrand, Aramis Knight, Charlie Gillespie, Cyrus Arnold, Nicole Elizabeth Berger, and Tichina Arnold -- first premiered at the Mammoth Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation and the Audience Award for Best Feature Film. It is set for release in theaters on Friday, October 1, and for streaming on Tuesday, October 19.

Before he landed his role on DAYS, Boatman appeared in the TV movie Stalked by My Doctor and starred in several short films, including one he produced called Off the Court. He's also a country music singer and has released singles titled "Buddies," "Country," and "Peach Tree."
