Greg Vaughan to debut as Eric Brady this fall

Eric Brady is headed back to Salem. The character, who hasn't been seen on-screen in more than a decade, will be back this fall with a new actor playing the part. General Hospital and The Young and the Restless vet Greg Vaughan has been tapped for the role.

As previously reported, Eric Brady will soon be headed back to Salem after a dozen years away. A lot of things have undoubtedly changed since Eric was last in town -- including the actor playing the role. Soap vet Greg Vaughan has been hired to bring the character home.

The stop on the NBC soap completes the network scorecard for Vaughan, who appeared previously on both ABC and CBS soaps. From 2002 to 2003, Vaughan starred as Diego Guittierez on The Young and the Restless. After wrapping his Y&R stint, Vaughan began a six-year run as Lucky Spencer on General Hospital.

Vaughan revealed on Twitter that he's taped his first scenes.

"Here's to new beginnings," Vaughan wrote along with an accompanying photo from NBC's lot in Burbank.

It's been just about twelve years to the day since Eric Brady last appeared on-screen. Jensen Ackles held the role of Eric from 1997 through July 31, 2000. Prior to that, from the time the character debuted in 1984, Eric appeared as a child, and was portrayed by four young actors.

In 2011, Vaughan turned down a role on Days of our Lives. At the time, Vaughan said that the role "wasn't on the same level" as what he was looking for.

Vaughan's first airdate has not yet been made available. Due to DAYS' hectic production schedule, fans are going to have to wait a while to see Vaughan's DAYS debut. The actor's first airdate will be November 13.
