AMC casts Guiding Light vet as new crime fighter

Television and film star Paula Garcés is joining the cast of All My Children in a newly created role. The actress previously appeared from 1999 to 2001 as Pilar Santos on Guiding Light.

Guiding Light's Paula Garces (ex-Pilar Santos) is joining the cast of All My Children. The actress appeared on Guiding Light from 1999 through 2001.

Garces will play the role of Lea Marquez, described as "a smart, savvy, beautiful woman who's devoted her life to a career of fighting crime and bringing down the bad guys."

Lea may also be described using the old adage "all work and no play." The show notes that "Lea's career takes up most of her days and nights, which leaves little time for a personal life. That is, until a man challenges her safe, controlled existence and threatens to open up the part of her she'd long since put to rest, her heart."

Garces does have another All My Children connection: she will soon be seen in the Lifetime primetime soap, Devious Maids, which co-stars Susan Lucci (Erica Kane).

Outside of soapy projects, Garces has made numerous appearances in primetime, includings roles as a doctor on Warehouse 13, a police officer on The Shield, and a tech on Law & Order: SVU -- all roles which would seem to relate well to her new AMC role. Garces also appeared in the Harold & Kumar series of films.

Per Prospect Park's policy of wanting All My Children to relaunch spoiler-free, the company has not yet made available a first airdate for Garces.
